Topic: It Takes Expert Eyes to See Uncanny Actions

Lecture expert: Professor Zhu Qin

 


     Professor Zhu Qin serves as the Director of the Wisdom and Action Laboratory and the Director of the International Exchange Program of the Department of Human Science and Health of Sports at the University of Wyoming. His main research direction is the learning and control of motor skills. Using the theory and research methods of the unity of knowledge and action, he has conducted a series of experimental studies on the control and learning of functional movements in life, movement and rehabilitation. It includes environmental availability, human throwing skills, the influence of visual hallucinations on motor control, coordination in movement, and rehabilitation of motor skills. The above research was funded by NIH and NSF in the United States, and accumulated nearly $1.57 million. His research results span multiple fields such as sports science, psychological science and brain science. At the same time, Professor Zhu also serves as an editorial board member and reviewer for several academic journals, as well as a reviewer for the NIH and NSF special funds. Recently, the real-time motion capture and analysis technology developed in virtual reality developed in his lab was certified by the U.S. Patent Office and received a NIH Special Research Grant for Innovation and Translation.

      In addition to his academic studies, Professor Zhu is a member of the Coach Development Committee and the Referee Arbitration Committee of the United States Badminton Association. He is certified as a senior coach of the United States Badminton Association and an American Badminton Association Class A badminton referee, and has officiated international badminton events such as the American Badminton Championships, the US Open, the Dutch Open and the Austrian Open.

Chair Expert: Associate Professor Derek Smith

 


      Associate Professor Derek Smith chairs the Department of Exercise Human Science and Health at the University of Wyoming. His teaching and research expertise includes: exercise physiology, physical activity and healthy living exercise interventions, cardiovascular disease prevention and exercise interventions, exercise ageing, and the use of technology to change health behavior. His recent research focuses on the development of telemedicine technologies, which leverage interdisciplinary strengths to enable technological innovation and transformation to promote health and cardiovascular disease prevention. Professor Smith has trained more than 60 graduate students, published a number of academic papers, and received a cumulative research and teaching grant of $2.2 million.
