The 17th Shanghai Sports Meeting Swimming Competition (University Group) and the 2022 Shanghai University Student Swimming Championship was successfully held in Shanghai Maritime University on December 17th and December 18th. A total of 252 students from 21 universities in Shanghai participated in the competition.
This competition has experienced many emergencies. One week before the competition, the school swimming pool was closed, which forced the training to be suspended. With the support of the Physical Education Department, the team members continued to train hard at the risk of COVID-19. Our high-level swimming team, led by Lv Jidong, the team leader, Xu Yanjun and An Ran, won 5 gold medals, 8 silver medals and 9 bronze medals in the fierce competitions in two days, ranking second in the number of gold medals in the group B competition of universities.
The high-level swimming team of SUFE sent 14 members and the Sunshine Team sent 6 members to participate in the competition. Although it was very cold, 4-5 degrees below zero, the team members still showed their best state to actively compete in the case of serious epidemic. In the first competition, Gong Yuchen from the School of Law won the gold medal in the 50 meter breaststroke competition of men's group B. He won the first gold medal of our school, which inspired the morale of the whole team. In the second competition in the afternoon, Liang Jingyan from the School of Law also won the gold medal in the 400 meter medley.
At the end of the first day, many players developed fever symptoms and were infected with COVID-19. In the game of the next day, the rest of the players were appointed to be substitutes in the relay match. Although it was not their main event, they calmly confronted the challenge and withstood the pressure. The team members continued to work hard. Zhang Xianya of the College of Business won the women's group B 50 meter freestyle and 100 meter freestyle double championships. Li Yiming of the College of Business won the men's group B 1500 meter freestyle championship.
In addition, the team members of Group A also won two fifth and two seventh places in this competition. They felt the charm of sports competitions and the cohesion of the team, which made them more passionate about sports and swimming.
Thanks to the leaders of the Physical Education Department for their support and concern for this competition. Thanks to Mr. Xu for his hard work for the high-level swimming team of SUFE, and finally thanks to the athletes for their efforts. Hope the swimming team will achieve more excellent results in the future!
